Not time, place for turbines

I have been following the letters regarding wind turbines in the town of Meredith and feel a need to add my “two cents.”

I was born and raised in the town of Meredith, and after a few years away, have returned. Delaware County, and especially the town of Meredith, is a beautiful, rural, agricultural area. It is not Tug Hill or any industrial area. Meredith is not going to solve the need for clean energy. But, as we residents have been dubbed for years as having a general lack of intelligence, it seems to be showing very well at present. This issue is a no-brainer. No good, only harm, could come from these structures. Open your minds and you will have the answer to our well-debated issue at hand.

Many residents complain that the influx of downstaters in our town is fighting the wind turbines. I have wonderful friends, neighbors and acquaintances from downstate. They not only contribute to our poor economy but they bring some intelligence, of which we are lacking.

The taxes in the town of Meredith are high and continue to rise. This creates a need for some to sell their properties. However, because the wind turbine issue is so well-publicized, real estate agents are disclosing the possibility of these structures to prospective buyers. It has discouraged many sales and has actually lowered the values of our properties.

Yet, we continue to have a few residents who think in terms of today only and of greed … no compassion for their neighbors and no insight to the future of Meredith. (Their children or grandchildren may want to return here some day.) How sad it is.

“Everything has its time. There is a time for every matter under heaven.” This is not the time or place for wind turbines.
