Details of a planned windfarm on the doorstep of Aberdeen will be outlined to residents at an open exhibition near the proposed site this week.
London-based Broadview Energy will host a 6pm to 9pm session at Cultercullen Primary School at Udny on Thursday, outlining its scheme for construction of three 334ft-high turbines at nearby Hill of Fiddes.
Yesterday firm director Jeff Corrigan said a formal application would be submitted to Aberdeenshire Council over coming weeks, and it was hoped to have the green energy project up and running within four to eight months of planning permission being given.
“We are hoping for a good turnout to Thursday evening’s exhibition. The intention is to make full information available to the community and keep local people fully up to date with our proposals,” he said.
A disused wind turbine has been on top of the hill for many years, but would be replaced by the small windfarm instead located on a slope of the Hill of Fiddes. A test mast has been in place for six years and confirmed the location’s suitability for the scheme, which could generate between six and seven-and-a-half megawatts – enough to power more than 6,000 homes – directly into the national grid through a sub-station at Udny Station.
The firm’s directors and project managers will be on hand to discuss the plans with residents, with details available of environmental impact and landscape assessments carried out along with proposed traffic management during construction
