Town OKs wind turbine permit

STARK – The Town Board Thursday approved a special-use permit for a wind turbine farm project.

The permit for the Jordanville Wind Project is subject to other conditions, many of which are related to environmental protection, according to the board.

The wind turbine farm also will be located in the neighboring town of Warren, whose board issued a special-use permit Wednesday evening.

Sponsored by Jordanville Wind LLC, which is a subsidiary of Iberdrola, USA, the wind turbine project is projected to bring up to 68 turbines – 34 to each town – that will generate 136 megawatts of power.

The wind farm project is supported by some residents who believe it will bring jobs and revenue to the area.

But others are concerned about the negative visual effects of the turbines and their effect on property values.
