Wind energy in Fayette Co.'s future?

Wind energy officials from Invenergy LLC met with landowners from the Oelwein area Tuesday night to discuss creating a wind energy farm in the southern part of Fayette County.

Darise Recker told supervisors Monday that landowners from Scott, Smithfield and Jefferson townships received letters from the company, inviting landowners to the meeting Tuesday night.

Recker asked the supervisors if the county had any permit requirements for wind turbines. Supervisor Mike Kennedy said the county doesn’t have any requirements at the present time, but would want to look into the matter.

Invenergy LLC is headquartered in Chicago with regional offices in Denver, Washington DC, Milwaukee, Toronto and London. The company has numerous wind power projects across the country including the Victory Energy Center in Carroll and Crawford counties. The project includes 66 wind turbines producing 99 megawatts of power. Invenergy developed the project and then sold it to MidAmerica Energy. The facility began operating in late 2006.
