It not just residents near to potential wind farm developments who have strong feelings on the issue. Leading Neath Port Talbot politicians have also entered the debate.
Aberavon AM Brian Gibbons has outlined his opposition to plans for wind farms in the Afan Valley.
In a letter to the Evening Post, he said: “Like most people in Aberavon, I accept the need to promote renewable energy. Such projects however, must not be unduly intrusive or diminish the quality of life for host communities.
“It is for this reason I have objected to wind farm proposals in the Upper Afan Valley.”
Aberavon MP Hywel Francis has also lent his support to Gag.
However, Neath MP Peter Hain is on record supporting increased efforts to find alternative energy sources.
At the opening of the Ffynnon Oer wind farm he said: “We have been behaving for generations as we like, sending carbon dioxide emissions into the air, and we are now receiving some terrible revenge from nature.
“I know there is a lot of opposition to wind farms, but we are not suggesting putting them in someone’s backyard or over every valley or hillside.
“But no-one can really object to this. It is helping pave the way for Wales to be a world leader in renewable energy.”
