I am writing in response to the editorial in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph on Saturday, June 9, regarding the wind turbines in WV. There are other issues to be considered in addition to the effect on wildlife.
The turbines are huge, ugly, and a very disturbing sight in the middle of our beautiful, scenic mountain landscape. The sound they make and look of them destroy real estate values for many miles surrounding their location. They are like a sight from science fiction and can be seen for miles! The people whose property have been impacted by them report that there is no escaping the constant noise they make both day and night.
The power generated is sold by those who put them up, not necessarily for the people of West Virginia. Another case of our state being taken advantage of, not for our gain. These turbines are being subsidized by taxpayers (us) and they do have a powerful lobby, as Congressman Rahall found out.
In theory the turbines sound like a good thing, but they do need regulation, and they could destroy the very thing that West Virginians value the most, our natural beauty and many parks especially in the higher elevations.
These turbines need to be seen by everyone in this area, before we blindly jump on the band wagon and support these private enterprises that would ruin our state!
