Planners have agreed to defer controversial plans for 125-metre high wind turbines in a Doncaster village.
The council’s planning committee agreed to the postpone a decision on the plans for four turbines in Marr after hearing that there had not been enough advertising carried out ahead of Tuesday’s meeting.
They decided to arrange a site visit to the proposed area off Hangman Stone Road.
There have been 150 objections together with 237 letters of support for the plans submitted by applicant Banks Developments. Council experts have recommended approval.
The development, if given the go-ahead, would be sited 1km outside Marr and within
2km of the villages of Barnburgh, Hickleton and High Melton.
All these villages contain designated Conservation Areas, while Hickleton contains a nationally designated park and garden of special historic interest.
Some of the protests have highlighted the height of the turbines and the visual impact within an area of special landscape value being so close to listed buildings and historic parks.
There are also noise and health fears, including the ‘flicker’ effect of the turbines which several residents fear will distract drivers on the nearby roads. Some say Robin Hood Airport could be affected.
But several have highlighted the environmental benefits of renewable energies.
* The public inquiry into the Tween Bridge windfarm proposal at Thorne/Moorends is continuing this week with more evidence from Robin Hood Airport, one of the objectors, due to be heard yesterday.
