Mass wind-farm plan branded 'vandalism'

The possibility of setting up a number of large wind farms on the Dava Moor has been attacked by a leading Euro MP as “vandalism on a grand scale”.

The Tory MEP Struan Stevenson wants the proposals stopped immediately and a detailed investigation carried out. He plans to submit a dossier to the environment commissioner in Brussels, alleging several potential breaches of EU directives.

Campaigners have raised concerns about wind farms being built in the area, on the border of Highland and Moray, saying they would spoil the landscape.

Mr Stevenson said: “This is vandalism on a grand scale. Dava Moor is one of the great wilderness areas of Scotland.

“The cumulative impact of these five wind farms on this designated area of great landscape will be appalling.

The wind farms will require massive excavation of this ultra-sensitive area, with consequent disturbance to the ecosystem.”
