Jordanville Wind project nearer to becoming a reality

The Stark Town Council is continuing to work on a payment plan and other considerations that go along with the special permit application from Jordanville Wind LLC, which pertains to the proposed wind energy project in the towns of Stark and Warren.

The town board held a public hearing on the subject two weeks ago and encouraged residents to come and voice their opinions.

Supervisor Richard Bronner said over 50 people attended the public hearing and the crowd seemed to be in favor of the wind farm 2 to 1.

Of the 14 people who spoke, 10 were in favor and four were opposed.

Bronner added the four who were opposed spoke at length, while those in favor kept their opinions short.

“(The hearing) seemed to be positive,” said Bronner. “It was the next necessary step.”

The town board had a special meeting on Thursday night to go over the special permit.

Bronner said members of the board discussed the conditions of the 15 to 20 page document that accompanies the permit.

He said the deadline to accept the application is at the end of the month, but the board won’t take any action on it until at least after June 14. The board has a regular meeting tomorrow and a special meeting on June 14.

Bronner added the Warren Town Council has not taken any action on the application either.

The total project consists of up to 68 two-megawatt per hour wind energy turbines between the two towns, and includes associated facilities, encompassing access roads, overhead power lines, underground collection lines, construction staging area and operational structures.

The special permit application is available for public review at the office of the town clerk of Stark, 207 Fiery Hill Road, Fort Plain and appointments can be made by calling 823-1697.

The impact statement is also posted at www.jordanvillewind.com.

Pending approval, the project is expected to enter into commercial operation during late 2008.
