Urge governor to deny EFSEC recommendation

By now we have heard all the pro and con arguments regarding wind power and the KVWPP. Whether a person is for or against wind farms is not the central issue of the debate. Ultimately it is all about the power and authority of elected local government over appointed bureaucrats.

Placement of wind towers and other wind farm issues have been very well stated and summed up in a March 30, 2007, guest column by Jeff Howard in the Ellensburg Daily Record. As important as these issues are, they are not the most important. The central and most important issue of the debate lies in how duly elected county commissioners are in the process of being overturned by a non-elected group of political appointees that want to run rough shod over the citizens of Kittitas County and the will of the people as expressed through these elected officials. This isn’t right. Upholding the recommendation of EFSEC nullify the democratic process. Otherwise why do we have elected officials to represent the folks of Kittitas County or any other county in the state or even the state itself for that matter?

I encourage the governor to just say “no” to this steamrolling of our duly elected county officials and let all who would have business in this state and county abide by the democratic process. If those that want winds farms in this area don’t like the ruling of the county commissions, throw them out of office through the democratic process. Don’t be a party to perpetrating this dangerous precedent upon the citizens of this state by nullifying our most sacred treasure: our right to vote and to have our vote count.
