Four Gamesa managers fired

Several employees fired from a Spanish wind turbine manufacturer said they are being punished for blades that loosened and fell.

Kevin Wagner of Vinco, a former production process manager for the Cambria County-based Gamesa, said he and three other mangers were fired including the quality care, human resources and plant managers.

Wagner contends the managers are “Gamesa’s scapegoats” for turbine blades falling to pieces after glue was not applied properly.

According to Wagner, Gamesa Director of U.S. Operations Jose Luis Blanco told Wagner he was fired not because of performance reasons, but because Blanco wanted to change the team.

Michael Peck, corporate spokesman for Gamesa, said, “Our people were and are trained expertly. I have absolutely no comment on firings. It’s an internal matter.”

Wagner said a recent audit revealed improper training in Spain, including the glue application process. He said before he and the other managers were fired, they re-trained Gamesa employees.

Peck did not say if the firings and the faulty glue application were connected.
