Zoning holds up wind farm

Plans for a wind farm in northern Lycoming County have been dealt another setback.

County Judge Nancy L. Butts yesterday affirmed a zoning board decision that denied a special exception needed to proceed with the $100 million project.

Butts ruled that Laurel Hill Wind Energy of Rutland, Vt., failed to meet its burden of persuading the county zoning board that its project complies with all the requirements for a special exception in a resource protection district.

Attempts to reach Laurel Hill spokesman Robert Charleboif were unsuccessful yesterday.

The company proposes to lease 706 acres on a ridge in Jackson and McIntyre townships to construct 35 wind turbines.
