Painted hills windmill fire
Drivers on the evening commute home got an unusual sight with smoke coming out of a windmill near Interstate 10 and Highway 62 Friday.
Fire officials reported a windmill near the Painted Hills area on fire at around 3:45 PM.
As smoke came out of the fans of the windmill, fire crews reported pieces of the mill falling off.
Nearby residents also say they could smell the odor of burning plastic in the area.
There were no injuries or major threats to homes nearby.
Officials are trying to find out how exactly the fire sparked.
