Windfarm scheme deferred

Planners have deferred making a decision on a scheme to double the size of the Blaen Bowi windfarm above Newcastle Emlyn.

Today Carmarthenshire planning officers recommending the project to set up three new 76 metre turbines should be refused.

But local councillors, including Cllr Haydn Jones and Cllr John Crossley, have said they are in favour of the project.

And now planning committee members say they want more information about the scheme before making a decision.

Planning officers told councillors that there is “no over-riding need for the development”; and that it would be an “unacceptable extension to an existing windfarm”.

The Carmarthenshire County Council is currently investigating complaints about noise from the existing three turbines. Permission for them was granted by councillors in 2000, against the recommendation of planning officers.
