Wind farm decision delay

The decision on the proposed Motorimu wind farm has been delayed until June 11.

An application from the commissioners, Dinah Williams, David McMahon and Richard Heerdegen for more time was granted by the three local authorities whose consent is required, Horizons Regional Council, Palmerston North City Council and Horowhenua District Coun- cil.

In October last year Motorimu Windfarm Limited, a subsidiary of Allco Wind Energy, applied for a resource consent to build a 127-turbine wind farm along part of the Tararua Ranges behind Linton and Tokomaru.

The consent hearing had already been delayed from December 2006 to March 2007 and a decision was due today.

Hearing chairwoman Ms Williams had said the decision could not be rushed as it was too important and would likely set a precedent for wind farms in New Zealand.

She could not be contacted yesterday to explain why the extension was requested.
