The Dolgeville Central School District has been in discussions with the Manheim Town Council regarding the proposed wind energy project that will bring 41 industrial wind turbines to the town. Superintendent of Schools Ted Kawryga said Tuesday that he and Manheim Town Supervisor Tim Parisi have talked about the payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) agreement, and the share the school district will receive.
“I will continue to meet with the Manheim Town Council as this is a negotiation process,” Kawryga said. “That said, the only telephone call that I received about the project was one that asked why the board of education and school district have not come out in favor of the project. The answer to that is the school board and district have always been in favor of the project, and we have been saying it right along.”
Kawryga said the caller referenced an article about the Little Falls Board of Education voicing its support for the windmill project proposed for the town of Manheim. In that article, Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Gokey said, “The PILOT agreement could represent a sizable amount of money for the town and two school districts involved. We all need to work cooperatively to insure the best deal for all of our constituents.”
“Our school district is not holding up the process,” Kawryga said. “There are a lot of issues to work out, which is why we are working with the town of Manheim and the Little Falls City School District to establish a strategy for once the county takes action on its PILOT agreement.”
