The real “rural terrorists” (report, May 10) are the wind farm developers holding communities to ransom while offering a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to landowners. When local people see their landscape in danger of demolition and their community destroyed then feelings will run high.
We, too, have a mast 800 metres from our house representing the underlying threat of a wind farm. Our property, and those in the surrounding area, are unsaleable and likely to decrease in value should the project go ahead. The developers want to put nine 100-metre turbines (as high as St Paul’s Cathedral) within 600 metres of many properties, including listed buildings.
The threat is real and causing great distress. Our campaign against it will cost many thousands of pounds. In the end it may be turned down, but at what cost? There have already been threats, anger, depression and despair. Is this really the way forward for renewable energy?
