A proposed payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement with a wind farm developer is on the agenda for the Madison County Industrial Development Agency’s Thursday meeting, though there’s no guarantee board members will discuss the matter again after county supervisors previously rejected the six-figure offer.
Citizens Airtricity Energy previously offered the county $250,000, and after lengthy discussions, county officials last month rejected the offer and cited a need for a comprehensive county policy on how to handle such payments from windmill developers.
The company is building a 28.5-megawatt windmill farm in Eaton, Stockbridge and Madison.
“They’re building them as we speak,” said interim IDA Executive Director John Reinhardt. “It’s there if anyone wants to pursue it,” he said, referring to the PILOT option.
By the end of summer, nine new windmills will be turning in Eaton, along with five in Madison and five in Stockbridge.
The first seven windmills in Madison County went up in the town of Madison in 2000, followed two years later by 20 turbines in Fenner.
The meeting begins at 3 p.m. at the Canastota Business Center.
