Residents of Whitewater, North Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs are planning a protest march against the proposed windmills this coming Sunday evening at 6 p.m. at the corner of Thomas Avenue and Indian Avenue in North Palm Springs.
“The locals who have everything to lose will be there,” said Chuck Wolf, resident of the affected areas where Dillon Wind plans to construct windmills almost 400 feet tall. “And now they must march to protect the life savings they’ve shed sweat and tears to.”
Residents claim that their property, mostly smaller homes, may no longer be salable. They also claim the windmill turbines could be heard around the clock as faraway as three miles. Also, the turbines affect radio, television and computer operations. Environmentalists claim the windmills kill birds and bats that fly through the areas as well.
Charles Amendola of Whitewater disagrees with his neighbors about the windmills, feeling that property values will not be affected, but feels that homeowners in the areas near the wind turbines should get some break financially.
“I don’t mind the windmills, but what I do mind are the high rates from Edison,” he said. “I’ve owned ten acres here and I still have had my property values go up.”
Those who plan to attend the protest chose this time to set it up, because of working schedules and convenience. Wolf added, “Some of these folks work two jobs to make ends meet.”
