Wind power profits

Does Llywelyn Rhys of the British Wind Energy Association (Letters, May 9) seriously ask us to believe 600ft wind machines make no noise, kill no birds or wildlife, do not affect people, that people would choose to buy a home nearby and tourists wouldn’t notice?

The fact we allowed ourselves and our countryside to be so solely used and destroyed by earlier profit-seeking developers who misinformed and short-changed us will not happen so easily again.

I and many other anti-wind power letter writers will be persistent in our efforts to protect our countryside from industrialisation and will continue to write letters to inform of contradictory reports to the ones submitted to the public by the BWEA.

You do however report accurately that “conventional electricity generation is a major carbon dioxide emitter”.

What you fail to mention is this carbon dioxide is still being emitted from stand-by operation in case the wind drops.

There will be no fossil fuel power station emitting carbon dioxide shut down no matter how many wind factories you cover our hillsides with.

There will however be a great deal of money in public subsidies to be claimed by wind power developers.
