Plans for a controversial wind farm scheme near Saddleworth Moor have finally been scrapped.
German Energy Company, E ON, had been applying for permission to build seven giant turbines on Denshaw Moor for more than four years.
Oldham’s former Lib-Dem-led council gave the go-ahead for the plans four years ago, but the new Labour council rejected the scheme in February.
E ON announced they would appeal, but now say they are withdrawing plans.
Energy company E On UK wanted to build seven 350ft (106.7m) turbines on Saddleworth Moor, above the village of Denshaw.
Environmentalist David Bellamy was among those who joined a protest against the proposals.
The company said the farm would have generated enough electricity for 8,500 homes, but opponents claimed it would ruin the landscape.
