Turbine money

The Dakins must be praised by us all for refusing to sell their souls to the wind devils (News, May 9). I too resisted a “bribe” of around £30,000 per year for 25 years to allow five or six useless wind turbines on my land, so I could gracefully retire from hill farming.

Now, some 14 years after the initial approaches, my wife and I have stood firm only to face a renewed threat from our neighbours, whose farming incomes have been destroyed by New Labour’s policies and who can scarcely be blamed for wanting to feed their families with this easy money.

Shame on the greedy wind-baggers whose main aim is to make money by industrialising our treasured landscapes, while destroying their value for generations of future tourism.
