Stephenson County wind farm woes

Some Stephenson County residents are concerned wind turbines close to their homes will decrease their property value. In response the county wrote up a plan to give them some piece of mind, but it did just the opposite.

Wednesday night voices were raised scowls were exchanged and a room full of board members and citizens were frustrated. In the end two property owner protection plans were removed from deals to build wind farms in Stephenson County. Board Chairman Blum said no other county in Illinois has such a plan, it would be difficult to manage, and that the plan sets a president they couldn’t uphold.

The people who were supposed to be protected by the plan didn’t want it in the first place. They say the county only drafted the plan to cover their own backs in case of a lawsuit. And that the board never had the best interests of Stephenson county tax payers in the first place.
