Public to have say on plan for wind turbines

The future of plans for a controversial North-east windfarm will be decided at a public inquiry.

Project developer St John’s Hill has appealed to the Scottish Executive over a rejected scheme for the project overlooking Kinneff.

The firm is appealing against Aberdeenshire Council’s refusal to grant permission to erect nine 260ft turbines and associated infrastructure at St John’s Hill. The scheme, backed by planners, was thrown out by the Kincardine and Mearns Area committee in October.

The council received almost 750 letters on the plan – 468 in support and 279 against.

A public inquiry will now be held into the scheme, although no date has yet been set.

No one from St John’s Hill was available for comment.
