SOMERSET – The town is going ahead with Empire State Wind Energy.
In a unanimous vote, the town board made a motion Monday to pursue wind power with the company, owned by Buffalo Sabres owner Tom Golisano. The town has been working with the company to get turbines into Somerset, Meyers said.
“The first step we need to take is a step of good faith,” Meyers said. “We need to tell them to come in and start spending their money.”
At this stage, Somerset needs to provide Empire with more information about the terrain. Meyers said the company is looking for interested land owners who want turbines on their property. Empire also needs to do testing to see where the wind is best.
The board has not signed a contract with Empire yet, although Meyers said there will be a contract in the future.
