Gamesa officials said Monday that a number of wind turbine blades were not glued properly, causing chunks of fiberglass to fall off.
In March, pieces of fiberglass coating – some larger than 8 feet – fell from seven blades at the Allegheny Ridge wind farm in Cambria County.
The blades were manufactured at the Ebensburg pant and are 140 feet long, about 14 feet wide and weigh about 7 tons.
Residents who live near the turbines said some of the falling pieces landed more than 500 feet from the turbines.
According to The Patriot News in Harrisburg, Gamesa said the blades must now receive a 100 percent passing grade from inspectors or they won’t be shipped out.
Several calls to Gamesa officials were not returned as of noon Monday.
