Area township passes wind turbine ordinance

After a vote of 2-1, supervisors have approved their first ever wind turbine ordinance.

They’re popping up on ridges across our region. Offering a renewable source of energy. Before wind turbines pick up speed in Bedford Township wind farm developers will have to follow a new ordinance.

For months, concerned residents have been crowding into supervisors meetings helping to shape the ordinance, talking about everything from the appearance of the 400 foot structures to the noise the turbines could produce.

Supervisors say they took all these concerns into consideration in drafting the ordinance.

Now that it’s been passed they say Bedford will be prepared in the event that turbines move in next door.

Regulations that supervisors believe will protect both the environment and the beauty of Bedford.

Bedford isn’t the only township in Bedford county passing wind turbine rules, just last week, Napier Township passed a similar ordinance.
