Complaint over wind farm claim

An opposition group protesting against plans for a windfarm near Shap has taken the developers behind the scheme to the Advertising Standards Agency.

Members of Communities Opposing Shap Turbines (COST) reported energy giant Gamesa to the ASA over information contained in their leaflets.

Georgina Perkins, COST organiser, said: “We understand Gamesa’s desperate desire to convince us of the value of its proposals, but we believe that it has made some unjustifiable and inaccurate claims in its leaflets and brochures.

“The ASA is there to police the rules laid down in the advertising codes.

“We believe that Gamesa has fallen short of these high standards and are pleased that the ASA has decided to launch a formal investigation.”

Gamesa plans to build twelve 387ft wind turbines near Shap. COST has lodged two protests with the ASA ““ one involving figures relating to carbon dioxide savings credited to the proposed turbines, and the other the economic benefits of the wind farm.
