Date of Burnham-On-Sea wind farm appeal hearing announced

The date has been announced this week for the appeal hearing to decide whether a controversial wind farm on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea can go ahead.

Burnham-On-Sea.com learns a four-day hearing will open on August 7th at 10am and be held in the town’s Princess Hall.

The Planning Inspectorate has also announced this week that the hearing will be overseen by planning inspector David Roberts Cunningford.

Comments from interested parties – including local councils and pressure groups such as FORCE (Families For Clean Energy) and KNOll To Wind Farm – were sent to the Planning Inspectorate earlier this year.

The government department will now spend several months assessing the arguments before making its final decision on whether to overturn the August 2006 decision by Sedgemoor District Council to reject the scheme.

The news comes after the Knoll To Wind Farm group launched a £30,000 fundraising campaign to fight Ecotricity’s appeal last year.

We revealed in December that Ecotricity, the developer behind the scheme, had submitted its appeal.
