A campaign group which opposes the building of huge wind turbines across Wales has chosen a Carmarthenshire lecturer as an Assembly candidate, writes Arthur Williams.
Caroline Evans, of Gwylfa, Gwernogle, will represent South Wales Alternative to Turbines (Swatt) in the battle for the Mid and West Wales seat.
Swatt says it hopes to raise awareness about what it calls the Assembly’s “stealth policy to carpet South Wales with monstrous turbines”.
Ms Evans, a lecturer in business and enterprise at Coleg Sir Gar, said: “The 10 giant turbines granted at Blaengwen, Alltwalis, are near to roads, homes and a special landscape area.
“It demonstrates how councils are using Tan8 to push through developments despite local protests and major devastation to the landscape, the major asset of Wales.”
“This is industrialised devastation of Wales, and all based on ill-thought through policies founded on spin from wind power station developers.”
Ms Evans joined the Liberal party at 19, and has been involved in campaigns in Cornwall, Liverpool and in Carmarthenshire.
She has served on the Welsh Liberal Democrat National Executive.
For the last four years, she has been concentrating on community work and the Brechfa Forest Energy Action Group.
Ms Evans added: “I finally realised that none of the political parties, including my own, had come out and taken a stand on this issue, so I filled in the nomination papers and left the Liberal Democrats.”
