Wind farm decision pending

Moyne Shire Council will decide the future of a small wind farm planned for south-west of Woorndoo at a planning meeting today.

The $49 million project, if built, will generate about 29.9 megawatts of energy which falls just within the council’s power to rule on the project’s future.

Projects of 30 megawatts or more need approval from Victorian Planning Minister Justin Madden.

Council officers are recommending to councillors they grant a permit for the project which spans 750 hectares on the Woorndoo-Chatsworth Road.

The project by NewEn Australia will consist of between 13 and 15 wind turbines, which are not expected to exceed 150m, on the Salt Creek Merino Stud.

The meeting will begin at 3.30pm at the Mortlake Shire office on Jamieson Avenue.
