Glenmore commission to hear revised plan on wind turbines

A Suamico-based wind turbine company will bring a revised plan to the plan commission Tuesday.

The meeting is 7:30 p.m. at the Glenmore Community Center, 5718 Dickinson Road.

Tom Mattson, principal of Prelude LLC, of Suamico, is slated to bring a revised version of a request for a conditional-use permit for seven wind turbines on land in Glenmore. He went before the commission in March, but the commission tabled the matter, pending more information.

Earlier this month the town board approved a six-month moratorium on new wind energy systems. Projects approved by the town board prior to the moratorium would be allowed to proceed with their construction.

On March 26, the three-member Town Board approved a conditional-use permit for another wind-energy company, Emerging Energies/Shirley Wind, LLC of Hubertus, for eight 2.75-megawatt, 492-foot turbines on land owned by four families.

In February, resident Jeff Jens submitted a petition to the zoning commission signed by 105 people asking for a 90-day halt while health and safety studies could be done. A few weeks later, on March 26, the board gave Emerging Energies/Shirley Wind, LLC, the go-ahead.

Principals from Emerging Energy LLC attended meetings throughout 2006 as Glenmore developed the wind-turbine ordinance, which was adopted in December 2006.

Chief partner Bill Rakocy said his company provided information and expertise on wind-turbine matters to the board during the process.
