Wind Capital Group, based in St. Louis, has proposed a 60 to 90-turbine wind farm on 11,000 acres in Franklin County.
The 150-megawatt Buffalo Creek Wind Farm would lie north of Highway 3 between Alexander and Latimer, said Dean Baumgardner, senior vice president of development and operations for Wind Capital.
Cost, including the 60 to 90 turbines, would range from $200 million to $300 million, Baumgardner said. It would serve Iowa homes and businesses.
More than 100 landowners would be involved. Most have signed agreements allowing their property to be studied.
Baumgardner said plans depend on wind turbine availability and the amount of interest expressed by local utilities. But he hopes construction can begin in 2008 and be completed by 2009.

“We’re just very excited about working on this project,” Baumgardner said. “I think it has great possibilities. We think it’s going to go forward.”
Meanwhile, work on the Franklin County Wind Farm, which will cover about 40,000 acres around Bradford in southern Franklin County, is expected to start this spring.
Iowa Winds LLC of Iowa Falls will build the 200- to 300-megawatt wind farm – one of the nation’s largest. It also is expected to cost between $200 million and $300 million.
