Candidates to oppose wind turbine bids

Three election candidates will stand in opposition to a wind turbine.
Tories Tony Parker, Andy Small and Paul Gander will contest the Ouse Valley and Ringmer ward at the Lewes District Council election on May 3.
They object to plans by Glynbourne Opera House to build a 44-metre wind turbine, which would reach 70 metres at the top of the blades.
The South Downs Joint Committee and the South Downs Society also oppose the plan for the turbine, which would stand in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The opera house argues it would provide a sustainable source of energy and would do no permanent damage to the area.
The bid will go before Lewes District Council’s planning committee in June at the earliest.
Dr Parker, a design engineer, said: “If elected, I will collaborate openly with councillors holding similar views on the turbine but I am not a single issue man.
“I will also argue against disproportionate new build and pursue the need for a dual carriageway along the A27 and improvements to the A26.”
