Southern California Edison (SCE) will host informal open houses Wednesday, April 11, at the Rosamond Public Library, 3611 West Rosamond Blvd., in Rosamond, and Thursday, April 12, at the Antelope Service Center, 42060 10th Street West, in Lancaster, to discuss its Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project. Both events will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The public will have an opportunity to learn about the Tehachapi project and to talk to SCE project team members and other project specialists.
The California Public Utilities Commission recently approved SCE’s application to build the Tehachapi project segments one through three. SCE will file an application in June to build the remaining eight segments. When all 11 phases are developed, the Tehachapi project will include a series of new and upgraded high-voltage transmission lines capable of delivering 4,500* megawatts of electricity from wind farms and other generating companies that are proposed for northern Los Angeles and eastern Kern counties.
The Tehachapi project is part of SCE’s five-year, $4.3-billion transmission expansion program designed to ensure that Southern California has the robust power delivery system needed by a growing region.
*One megawatt is enough power to serve approximately 650 average homes. However, the actual output of wind energy projects may be limited due to weather conditions.
