Over £20,000 has been raised by a protest group to fund a legal battle to fight against plans for five wind turbines in Sedgemoor.
kNOll to Wind Farm announced in January that it was going to ask every household in Brent Knoll to contribute cash, with the amount based on each property’s value. The figure ranged from £32 for band A households to £97 for band H households.
Spokesman Andrew Manning said: “We had lots of contributions from people, from little old ladies giving £5 to one elderly gentleman who donated £50. It was really nice to see so many people wanting to donate.”
The money is needed to fund barrister Tina Douglas, and to pay up to five expert witnesses, when Ecotricity appeals against Sedgemoor District Council’s decision to reject its application to build the turbines between Brent Knoll and Burnham. The appeal is expected to be heard in June or July. and the group is hoping to raise a further £5,000.
Andrew said: “Obviously the more expert witnesses we can get the better. Our committee is looking at fund-raising ideas, but time is ticking on. We will now be looking for donations from all over the Burnham area because this is something that will affect a lot of people, not just Brent Knoll residents.”
The group would like to hear from anyone who has a fund-raising idea, or who is willing to hold an event to raise funds. Anyone who would like to make a contribution should make cheques payable to ‘BK No Campaign’ and leave them, care of Eddie Fuller, at the village post office.
