Wind of protest strikes fresh note

A protest song against plans to build a windfarm near Wardle was given its first and second airings on Sunday.

The crowds at Ellenroad Steam Museum liked The Moonshiners’ rendition of “˜Monsters on our Moorland’ so much they ended up playing it twice.

Now the three-piece folk band plan to release the song on CD to raise funds for opposition group The Friends of the South Pennines.

Lead singer Mick Bailey, of Weir Road, Milnrow, said: “There was a hell of a lot of support for the sentiment.

“There were people there who had no idea about the plans but who ended up signing the petition after hearing the song so it is helping to get the message across.”

Coronation Power plans to build 12 125m-high turbines at Crook Hill near Watergrove Reservoir.
