Wind farm public hearings delayed until July, August

EUREKA – Public hearings on a proposed 100-turbine wind farm extending into Woodford County are delayed until July or August, Woodford County Zoning Administrator John Hamann said Tuesday.

Originally, hearings were slated to begin late next month.

But Hamann said the extension allows the wind farm’s developer, Invenergy Wind LLC of Chicago, to “get better information” to those who oppose the White Oak Wind Energy Center. He said the time extension also allows opponents, many of whom live in or around the community of Carlock, to research and be more informed about the proposed development.

The McLean County Board this month approved a special use permit for the construction of the $250 million wind farm, despite growing opposition.

A majority of White Oak Wind Energy Center is in McLean County, but about 20 turbines are planned for Woodford County near Carlock.

Because of this, a separate special use permit needs to be approved by the Woodford County Zoning Board of Appeals and the Woodford County Board.
