Public meeting on Innisfil wind farm

A privately-owned, Toronto-based company is proposing a small-scale wind farm project in Innisfil.

Schneider Power Inc. wants to build a five-turbine windmill farm on property east of Highway 400 between the 5th and 6th Concession of Innisfil. If successful, the project would generate 10 megawatts of electricity. Feeder lines would connect the site to the existing Innisfil Hydro grid.

A public information session is being held on Monday, April 2, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Churchill Community Centre, 6322 Yonge St., Innisfil. Representatives from Schneider Power will be on hand to discuss the results of environmental studies undertaken since May 2006, the assessment of potential impacts and any residual effects. Public comments will be welcome.

Schneider Power currently operates and is developing several other wind farm projects across Canada, including one approximately the same size on Manitoulin Island and a larger project ($550 million) in Manitoba that when complete, will generate enough power for the equivalent of 21,000 homes.

Two other Ontario wind farms are planned near Arthur and Trout Creek.

More information about the Innisfil project can be obtained by calling 416-847-3724, ext. 229, or visiting www.schneiderpower.com
