The Environment Court is considering submissions from three organisations opposed to a wind farm on Te Waka Range west of Napier. They claim it will have significant adverse effects on the environment and the visual landscape.
The Hawke’s Bay power lines company Unison Networks wants to build a wind farm on Te Waka range. The proposed 37 turbines would provide sufficient power for 50,000 households.
A large group of Maori turned up at the court on Wednesday to express their opposition to the plan.
Counsel for the Outstanding Landscape Preservation Society says the benefits of wind power are undeniable, but the turbines will dominate and disrupt the landscape.
