County Board OKs wind farm proposal

The McLean County Board has approved a wind farm proposal that has been strongly opposed by neighbors and others. An attorney for the opponents says she believes they will appeal the decision.

The board voted 17-1 Tuesday for the White Oak wind farm project.

On Friday, attorney Melissa McGrath had filed a court request seeking a temporary restraining order on the vote, saying opponents hadn’t been given enough time to study documents and that the Zoning Board of Appeals had changed hearing rules midway through the process.

Earlier Tuesday, Judge Charles Reynard denied the request, but said the opponents likely would have grounds to appeal on the rule changes. He said the time deadline did not apply because the zoning board did not make a final decision in the matter, only made a recommendation to the county board.

County Board member Tari Renner cast the only “no” vote. Member Ann Harding did not attend the meeting. Board member Duffy Bass, who died last week, has not yet been replaced on the board.
