A public meeting and site visit at the proposed wind farm development in Morwenstow is due to go ahead tomorrow.Campaigners have spent more than two years fighting the proposals by West Coast Energy to place three 81m wind turbines near Crimp, just outside Morwenstow.
The company said the project has community benefits and will help North Cornwall meet its renewable energy targets. But it has met with opposition and a group was formed to fight the plans – Morwenstow Against Turbines ( MAT).
The site visit, by North Cornwall District Council, will be followed by a public meeting at Morwenstow Community Centre at 2pm.
There were concerns the visit and meeting may need to be delayed due to roadworks taking place along the main route into the village. But it is set to go ahead as planned.
A spokesman for MAT said: “We are relieved the public inquiry will take place, but the planned diversions may mean many objectors to the application who will be coming from other areas and neighbouring parishes will have problems getting into the village.
“Also some viewing points will be blocked off meaning the planning committee will not get to see the full impact these turbines could have on the surrounding landscape.”
Alternative routes are in place while the roadworks are carried out, and special access is being allowed for some vehicles.
