Turbine firm accepts fence plan

German energy firm E.on has accepted a suggestion from Workington Town Council on how to protect its nine wind turbines at Oldside from vandalism, break-ins and theft.

The company has accepted the illegality of its planning application to erect a two metre steel security fence around its entire site, but has agreed to comply with a recommendation from the town council’s planning committee that each of the turbines can be individually fenced off to allow the public to have access to the public land in between for walking and recreation.

Allerdale council, the planning authority which will make the final decision, has been informed that the town council planning committee is happy to endorse the new plan.
