A public meeting has been called to discuss a controversial planning application for a windfarm on Coldingham Moor.
Organised by Coldingham Community Council the meeting is to be held in the village hall at 7pm on Friday, March 30.
An application from PM Renewables has just gone before Scottish Borders Council for a 22 turbine farm on Coldingham Moor at Drone Hill.
The revised plan for 76m turbines has been put forward after an original applicaton for 102m turbines was withdrawn.
Although smaller, the number of turbines has been increased form 16 to 22 for the site, 6km west of Coldingham.
The company also proposes to build a visitor centre which will give background information on the farm and promote local attractions.
PM Renewables has said it will pay £1m to the communities surrounding the farm if it gets the go-ahead.
The original application was backed by the villagers last year at a public meeting and most are believed to be in favour of the revised application although concerns have been voiced from people living nearer the site.
However the community council want the issue to be thoroughly discussed before it goes to SBC’s planning meeting.
“This will dominate the whole of the moor,” pointed out community council chairman Ged Hearn.
“It will be huge and we want to make sure the public are in favour before it goes ahead.”
“The proposal will see the beautiful and largely unspoilt area of Coldingham Moor dominated by these turbines for generations to come.
“We would like to give the local people – broadly the Berwickshire area – whose coastal strip is possibly to be dramatically changed for all our lifetimes a chance to debate this change,” said Mr Hearn.
