Ten more turbines planned for district

Deeping St Nicholas is bracing itself to discuss proposals to build 16 more wind turbines as another ten are proposed close to Holbeach Drove and Gedney Hill.

The parish council will hold a special meeting at Deeping St Nicholas Primary School at 7pm today to discuss reaction to proposals by Spanish giant Iberdrola, one of the world leaders in renewable energy, for land at Church Farm.

Parish councillor Julian Davis, who has experienced months of sleepless nights due to noise from existing turbines in the village, said: “It’s just disbelief at the moment ““ it has hit home and is shocking a lot of people.

“I think people can’t believe there is research going on when there are unresolved issues with the existing turbines.

“A lot more people could be affected and now they are interested about where the turbines are going and what similar issues there might be.”

The parish council has been asked by South Holland District Council to comment on the impact of proposals for the 120m tall turbines, following a scoping report submitted by Iberdrola.

The company has also submitted proposals for up to ten 120 metre wind turbines on eight separate fields at Langary Gate Farm, Langary Gate Road, north of Holbeach Drove and Gedney Hill.

A scoping report is the first stage in the planning process and would be followed by an environmental impact assessment, an in-depth study looking at issues such as noise and effect on birds which would take up to 18 months to complete.

County councillor Stephen Williams said: “I feel the Government is dumping wind turbines on Lincolnshire.

“I don’t mind having our fair share but I’m against the principle of changing the whole character of the area.

“Every area has its own distinct character and so do we in the Fens.”
