Reservoir wind turbines plan

Two 400ft high wind turbines could be built next to a reservoir near Bridgnorth.

South Staffs Water has put forward plans for a pilot scheme next to Chelmarsh reservoir in a bid to use renewable energy sources.

South Staffs Water, which owns the Chelmarsh reservoir and Hampton Loade treatment plant, has sent out leaflets explaining its action.

The company is applying to Bridgnorth District Council for permission to put up a 70-metre monitoring mast to measure wind strength in the Severn Valley at Chelmarsh.

If the results show conditions are favourable it will apply this summer for two white wind turbines – the largest of their kind – to be put up next to the reservoir.

Chelmarsh Parish Council has demanded the company holds a public meeting to allow people to voice concerns.
