Reject wind bid

Windfarm protestors are urging councillors to reject their officers’ advice when they meet next week.

Northumberland County Council has backed a bid to put 18 wind turbines on land at Middlemoor, South Charlton, in North Northumberland, and Alnwick District Council’s planning committee will have their say on Tuesday.

The council’s planning officers stirred a storm of protest by recommending approval of npower’s plan.

Objectors say the proposal to put the 125-metre high masts on land near the A1, will ruin the area’s rural skyline.

Npower says the development is vital in an age of global warming and would provide electricity to 27,000 homes.
