More wind turbines for Arinaga

Plans are being put forward for a new experimental wind farm at the port of Arinaga. It’s to be run by the publicly-owned company, Megaturbinas de Arinaga S.A.

This is a controversial move, as the whole issue of wind-power contracts has been the subject of criminal investigations in Gran Canaria over the past year or so, and the precise role and purpose of Megaturbinas has been much-debated.

Nonetheless, the plans being put forward are ambitious. The proposed windmills may well end up being Spain’s biggest, at over 100m tall.
