In last week’s Freeman’s Journal, two letters to the editor were published in support of industrial wind development in our region. As usual, there was something missing from them ““ numbers and references.
My letters were intended to illicit discussion based on the published numbers related to energy consumption and production, and to alert everyone that our tax dollars are already paying for the wind projects.
However, many who respond to me can never talk about the numbers. They start on the patriotism and provide generalizations to promote their cause or, in actuality, the personal gain, at our expense, of outside developers and the landowners who have won the lottery.
Last week’s patriotism expert said wind energy is a documented alternative to Muslim oil. Is he such a patriot when he does not even reference the mystery document?
I will do it for him. The Department of Energy provides the energy-consumption statistics for the entire country and its online resources show approximately 2 percent of our electricity is generated by oil.
Will the patriot please explain why he is marketing wind power as a solution to Mideast oil dependence. Mentioning patriotism five times in a letter does not make one a patriot. Maybe he is on the enemy payroll for trying to mislead us and direct our resources toward a false solution.
I feel sorry for the lady who spoke against municipally owned wind energy for tax reasons. Apparently she didn’t realize that her tax money was already going to subsidize the Jordanville project.
As a turbine lessor, she probably doesn’t care because she stands to gain personally from the development and has volunteered to market the project with wind-developer-provided propaganda.
Last week’s letter writer also neglected to mention that she is the biggest lottery winner, with several turbine leases. How many homes did you say you were going to power with the Jordanville project? Is it 50,000 or 5,000? We need to know the real number before we waste our tax dollars on you and prolong the energy crisis.
