Town hall chiefs look set to refuse two potential wind farm projects.
SLP Energy proposes building a wind farm at Rampside.
The company plans to put up a temporary, 60-metre high mast in a field opposite Newholme Farm to monitor the wind.
But Barrow Borough Council chiefs look set to refuse permission for the mast when they meet on Tuesday.
The bosses on the council’s planning committee are being advised to turn down the application by council planning officials.
The officials say the company has failed to provide suitable evidence to show the mast would not compromise aviation safety.
Centrica Energy is among the objectors to the application.
It says the proposed mast would be directly within the flight path to and from the helipad at Barrow Gas Terminal and that it is likely the mast would close down operations to the helipad.
At the same meeting, the planning committee looks set to refuse permission for a wind turbine at Askam Village School in Lots Road.
Council planning officials are advising the committee to refuse the application from headteacher Myron Hrynkow.
Phil Huck, council assistant regeneration director, said: “The turbine will help generate electricity for the school’s private use. This reduces its reliance upon non-renewable sources of energy, thus helping in a small way, to achieve national sustainability targets.
“The proposal may also help set a positive example to others who are considering the use of such renewable sources.
“The proposal, in theory, does have support, but unfortunately due to the lack of information relating to possible disturbance upon residential properties, cannot be supported at this time.”
Tuesday’s planning meeting is due to start at 2.30pm at Barrow Town Hall.
